General Advice & Information

Professional Advice

All members have access to telephone advice on legal matters from a firm of solicitors who specialise in travel law. They can provide expert advice on most matters relating to the travel industry. You may make up to 5 calls a year free of charge. Similar arrangements have been set up with a high profile firm of French solicitors and advisors on Taxation/accounting, T.O.M.S., customer Services, complaint handling and carbon offset schemes.

Trading Standards

Via the Trading Standards office for West Sussex, ABTOF members can seek confidentials advice on all matters relating to trading Standards.

ABTOF Members Handbook

The ABTOF Members Handbook is produced once a year. This 100+ page directory lists all member companies and gives a brief description of their activities and principal contacts. Whilst the Directory is intended principally for use by the Media ( it is emailed to all travel writers on our actively managed press database) and external organisations, it is also an extremely useful handbook which is distributed free of charge to all members each year.

Conference

The Association stages a business conference each year. Venues to date have included: Nice, Futuroscope (Poitiers), Le Touquet, Cannes,Aix-en-Provence, Lyons, Colmar, Toulouse, St Martin (French Caribbean),LaBaule, Disneyland®Paris, Aix-les-Bains, St.Raphael, Paris, Deauville, Marseille, Reims, Lille. The format is a 4-day event and sponsorship ensures that the cost is kept to a minimum for participating members. All members receive an invitation well in advance of the Conference.

PR Initiatives

Often in conjunction with the French Tourist Office, we co-ordinate a programme of PR initiatives on behalf of our members. These are designed to highlight the exceptional value that France offers, especially when visited through ABTOF member operators, and generally keep France in the minds of National travel Editors. The initiatives are organised along a variety of themes and participation is open to all Full Members.

Press Lunches

In conjunction with the press office of the French Tourist Office, we invite suitable journalists and travel writers to attend functions at which members have an opportunity to introduce their new products and meet the media. For summer operators this event is scheduled for November. A similar event takes place earlier in September for the launch of ski operator’s products. There is also a substantial programme of smaller Press Lunches, scheduled for other specific products/holiday types during the course of the year.

Low Cost Training Courses

ABTOF runs a range of low cost training courses covering a range of subjects. These are usually one day events, held in central London and are open to all members. Subjects covered include digital photography, customer service, travel law, making the most of PR and many more.

ABTOF Educationals

ABTOF sponsor regular educational visits to various destinations in France, usually in conjunction with the regional tourist offices. A small administrative fee is charged for such visits and information about the educationals is distributed to members on a regular basis. In particular, these visits are an excellent way of introducing sales and reservational staff to regions of France featured in your brochures.

Regular E-Mail Updates

A service designed to keep members informed of the increasing number of information requests ABTOF receives from journalists. Details of each request are e-mailed to all relevant members (and their PR companies where applicable). The member then liaises directly with the journalist responsible.

Joint Press Advertising

In conjunction with the French Tourist Office and other organisations, ABTOF mounts joint advertising campaigns each year for both ski and summer operators. We also negotiate advantageous rates for advertising in magazines and newspapers throughout the year and on an ad hoc basis. All full members are welcome to take part in these campaigns.

Meeting & AGM

Usually during Autumn, we organise a meeting in London to coincide with ABTOF's AGM. The day includes presentations from industry experts as well as a series of break-out sessions covering topics suggested by members. This is an ideal opportunity for people to meet up during the season to discuss their progress and problems, so far.

Members Website

As you are obviously aware ABTOF has its own internet site www.holidayfrance.org.uk and www.franceyesyoucan.com which is simply a 'hub' from which members of the public can link on to members’ websites. The website is the core of the 'France Yes You Can' marketing campaign that is operated on an ongoing basis by ABTOF and our members. A listing on the site is free of charge to all full members, with the option of being included in the search facility for a small fee.

Affiliate Members

The Association has a policy of actively encouraging suppliers both UK and French based to join the Association as Affiliate Members. In this way we are able to put our members in touch with suppliers who actively want to work with our full members and where possible, we organise special ABTOF rates with such suppliers.

Social and Networking Events

Several social events are held for members during the year, both in the UK and France. They offer an excellent networking opportunity in a pleasant atmosphere.

General Advice & Information

The ABTOF office is always pleased to follow up general enquiries and questions from members. We may not always know the answers, but we usually know someone who does!
